The Experience

Art that feels honest, welcoming & free

Where the Wild Things Connect is not about making perfect art. It is about slowing down long enough to actually feel something — and discovering that creativity has been waiting for you all along. Over eight extraordinary days at Manyoni Private Game Reserve, San Diego-based teaching artist Suchita Jhawar creates a warm, welcoming space where storytelling, colour, texture, and human connection come together. Morning Big Five game drives fill your senses with Africa's most extraordinary wildlife. Afternoons are spent making art that is honest, layered, and completely your own.

Suchita believes creativity should feel accessible and meaningful for everyone — not intimidating. Her workshops are rooted in community, emotion, and the joy of making something with your own hands. You don't need to be an artist. You just need to be willing to slow down, experiment, and be present.

"I know how powerful it is to step away from everyday life and give yourself time to create, reflect, and breathe. Creativity can open up in extraordinary ways when we're held in the right kind of environment."

Your Suchita writes poetry, has performed in theatre, makes flavoured gin, and has written and illustrated a children's story book. She is one of the most creatively multidimensional artists in the Pathway Partners family.section title

Suchita's Teaching Philosophy

Three things she wants every guest to experience

Connection over perfection

Suchita creates spaces where people can slow down and connect — with themselves, with each other, and with the creative process. The end result is never the point. The experience is everything.

Art for everyone

Her ideal participant isn't an artist. They're someone curious and open-minded who values process over perfection. That's the only qualification needed.

Storytelling through making

Every piece of art Suchita makes and teaches is rooted in story — everyday moments, human connection, memory, and cultural identity. In the African bush, those themes take on extraordinary new meaning.

YOUR GUIDE

Suchita Jhawar

@artbysuchi_

· Art by Suchi

Suchita Jhawar is a San Diego-based artist and teaching artist whose work is rooted in storytelling, emotion, colour, and community. Her belief is simple: creativity should feel accessible, playful, and meaningful for everyone.

Over the past several years, Suchita has led art workshops for children and adults across San Diego County — from paint-and-sip events to after-school enrichment programs to community art experiences. She has also completed a residency at the prestigious Château d'Orquevaux in France, an experience that deepened her understanding of what it means to create in an immersive, supportive environment far from home.

Her artwork is inspired by everyday moments, human connection, memory, nature, and cultural storytelling. She writes poetry. She has performed in theatre. She makes flavoured gin and has written and illustrated a children's story book. Suchita is, by any measure, someone who finds creative possibility in everything she touches.

In the South African bush, her themes of belonging, connection, and shared humanity will find one of the most extraordinary canvases they have ever encountered.

THE SETTING

Manyoni Private Game Reserve spans 23,000 hectares of KwaZulu-Natal wilderness and is home to the Big Five, over 400 species of bird, and some of the most paintable landscapes in South Africa. It's remote enough to feel like another world. It's comfortable enough that you won't want to leave.

This is where Pathway Partners hosts all its artist retreats, chosen deliberately for its scale, its wildlife density, and the quality of light that artists keep coming back for.
