Meet Suchita
Suchita Jhawar is a San Diego–based teaching artist whose work is rooted in storytelling, emotion, colour and community. Her belief is simple: creativity should feel accessible, playful and meaningful for everyone.
She has led workshops for children and adults across San Diego County, and completed a residency at the prestigious Château d'Orquevaux in France — an experience that deepened her understanding of what it means to create somewhere immersive, supported, and far from home.
Her work draws on everyday moments, human connection, memory, and cultural identity. She also writes poetry, has performed in theatre, makes flavoured gin, and has written and illustrated a children's storybook. By any measure, she finds creative possibility in everything she touches.
In the South African bush, her themes of belonging and shared humanity will meet one of the most extraordinary canvases they've ever encountered.
Something you didn't know
"I know how powerful it is to step away from everyday life and give yourself time to create, reflect, and breathe. Creativity can open up in extraordinary ways when we're held in the right kind of environment."
Everything You Need to Know
Eight days at Manyoni. Here's exactly what that looks like, what's included, and how to secure your place.
-
Each day moves to the rhythm of the reserve.
Mornings belong to the bush — Big Five game drives that fill your senses with Africa's most extraordinary wildlife, in light you'll spend the rest of the day trying to capture.
Afternoons are spent making art that's honest, layered, and completely your own. Suchita creates a warm, unhurried space where storytelling, colour, texture and human connection come together — no pressure, no performance.
Evenings are for sharing what you made, swapping stories, and letting the African sky do what it does.
You don't need to be an artist. You just need to be willing to slow down, experiment, and be present.
-
Suchita's teaching rests on three ideas:
Connection over perfection — She creates spaces where people slow down and connect: with themselves, with each other, with the process. The end result is never the point. The experience is everything.
Art for everyone — Her ideal guest isn't an artist. It's someone curious and open-minded who values process over perfection. That's the only qualification needed.
Storytelling through making — Every piece she makes and teaches is rooted in story: everyday moments, memory, cultural identity, human connection. In the African bush, those themes take on extraordinary new meaning.
